SUMMARY:Contracts and Subcontracts
DESCRIPTION:This course focuses on contracts in construction and will teach participants how to understand contract and subcontract language and requirements. Participants will learn to read and negotiate a contract and subcontract. Additional topics include billing and reporting requirements and specific forms included within documents. This is a two-day course. In addition to professor\, trainer and international business coach – John spent several years as a project manager for both Woodward and GE\, where John’s projects ranged from small hydropower plants to large gas turbine power plants.  John has 30 years of experience leading teams as a project manager\, sales manager\, Global Product Manager\, International General Manager\, International Field Engineer and US Navy Nuclear Submariner. \n\n					\n				\n							\n						\n						\n				\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n				\n							\n					\n				\n				\n			\n							\n				\n									\n						Keith Ray					\n				\n									\n						Keith Ray is the founder and owner of The Ray Law Firm\, LLC\, located in Centennial\, Colorado\, and has served on multiple non-profit boards\, including Colorado Lawyers for the Arts and the Fort Lewis College Alumni Association. He currently serve on the boards of both the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado and HCC Contractor Academy.\n\nRay has more than 25 years of experience handling commercial disputes\, including subrogation\, construction and various contract disputes. After going to law school at SMU in Dallas\, he started his career in a small law firm in Texas. He returned to Colorado in 2000 to work in a national law firm. In 2005\, Ray was one of five founding attorneys to open the Denver office of Lathrop & Gage LLP. In 2016\, he opened The Ray Law Firm to continue handling providing the same level of sophisticated representation to his clients without the national law firm rates.					\n				\n							\n						\n						\n				\n					\n		\n					\n		\n					\n		\n				\n			\n						\n				\n									HCC Contractor Academy has formed a strategic partnership with Front Range Community College to offer college-level courses at a fraction of the cost.  \nYou’ll learn from seasoned instructors in an industry-graduate training program designed specifically for HCC Contractor Academy. These aren’t your typical one-off training classes. These  courses are developed and taught by construction industry experts and cover topics that are critical to the growth and sustainability of contractors in Colorado. If you want to play with the big dogs\, you need to learn from the best—and that means attending these courses! \nThis course is part of a series of 11 courses. The first five courses are being offered in the spring of 2022\, and the remaining six courses will be offered in the fall of 2022. \nThanks to a generous Skill Advance Colorado Job Training Grant as well as a sponsorship from the City and County of Denver Division of Small Business Opportunity (DSBO)\, each eight-hour course will be $150 and each four-hour course will be $100 (regularly $200). \nSmall construction businesses are eligible to receive a scholarship for an additional 50% off the course fees.
